The Compass
Food Bank and Drop-In Centre
Realizing the urgent need of those experiencing severe economic and social challenges, ten Christian churches in the Lorne Park/Clarkson area formed The Compass to address this serious and growing social concern within the community. The Compass provides relief to people struggling with life’s challenges. Through the building of relationships within the community and the member churches, we offer both practical and spiritual support. The Compass drop-in centre offers coffee, free groceries and household supplies on a voucher system, a safe place to visit, and prayer support when requested.

The Dam
Youth drop-in Centre
The Dam is a community program for youth (13-19yrs) located in the Meadowvale Town Centre and at 1400 Plains Rd East, Burlington. All teens are welcome, free of charge, to come to the drop-in and participate in the programs, regardless of race, creed or colour. The drop-in provides a positive, healthy, encouraging and neutral turf environment that is drug-free and alcohol-free. It’s a safe place where youth can hang out. It is the hope that the drop-in is a dam that stops the flow of teens from becoming homeless street kids in the downtown core of Toronto. It is the goal to be the friends of youth and a resource to help them stay at home, in school and in the community.

National Missions
Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative
DWCC is a network of friends committed to the ongoing renewal of the downtown. Most of our network live downtown, but others participate in renewal from outside the border. All are committed to the downtown being a great place to grow up and a great place to grow old. DWCC is the structure that enables us to organize the activities that bring people together, and advocate change for the good. Downtown Windsor’s core is bounded by the River to Giles, Howard to Caron. In that 4 sq km, there are 16,000 people living in several distinct walkable neighbourhoods.
See the DWCC’s website for more information.
Young Life
Since Young Life of Canada began in 1954, staff and volunteers have been leaving their adult “comfort zone” to meet teens on “their turf”. You will find Young Life leaders wherever kids are found… cheering in the stands at a hockey game, encouraging them in school activities, or hanging out at the nearest coffee shop or skate park . Young Life communities strive to create meaningful, mentoring relationships between leaders and teens and to create spaces where teens are listened to, and where questions of life and faith can be discussed.
See Young Life’s website for more information.
